Grief and Loss

Grief and bereavement are often experienced due to the loss of a loved one, whether it be a parent, sibling, spouse, child, friend, pet or other important being in our lives. Such a loss is often deeply felt and lingers in one's heart and mind, even after the rest of the world goes back to life as usual. Counseling can help ease this burden by providing support and a place to process for those left feeling lost and alone after being struck by grief.

If you have recently lost someone and are experiencing the following symptoms, you may benefit from finding a therapist to help you process your feelings:

  • Crying spells

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Lack of productivity

  • Sad or empty feeling

  • Feelings of hopelessness / worthlessness

  • Exaggerated self-preoccupation

  • Digestive problems

  • Restlessness and irritability

  • Lack of concentration

  • Derealization (feeling like what is happening around you isn’t real)

  • Spells of increased heart rate, shortness of breath, tightness in chest

  • Loss of appetite leading to weight loss

Grief may also stem from:

  • Loss of your health

  • Ending of an important relationship

  • Loss of a job or financial security

  • Miscarriage

  • Loss of a dream or long-term goal

  • Medical diagnosis / Physical impairment
